Solar Pool Heating

A solar pool heating system is an economical alternative to conventional pool heaters. Heating a pool with gas or electricity costs thousands of dollars, while using solar energy is free. With a solar pool heating system from Solar Heating Canada your pool heating costs can be reduced by up to 80%. Learn more about solar pool heating cost savings.
With our solar pool heating system, a pool can be constantly heated using free solar energy. Even on cloudy days, a solar pool heater will collect solar energy to heat pools of any size. Indoor pools can also be heated with solar energy all year round.

How Solar Pool Heating Works

Our high efficiency solar pool heating systems works via a closed loop. The pool water is heated in a heat exchanger which is heated by the solar collectors. This system is more efficient than an open loop configuration which is utilized in low quality plastic or rubber solar collectors. The closed loop solar pool heating system is designed to work with the existing pool circulation system where pool water is diverted into a heat exchanger which is heated by the solar collectors with regular water. A solar station is used to pump the heating water from the solar collectors to the heat exchanger when the pool temperature is below the desired. Once the water in pool is heated to the desired temperature the heating process is ceased. When the sun has set and there isn't sufficient energy to heat the pool the circulating pump in the solar station stops.

This system is completely automated and can be set to heat water to any desired temperature. Once the controller senses that the desired temperature has been achieved it stops heating the water to save energy.

High Efficiency Solar Pool Heaters

While there are various types of solar pool heaters on the market, not all are very efficient. Efficiency depends on how well a pool is heated using a finite number of panels and surface area. What this means is, how much roof space and material is required to heat the pool to the desired temperature in a very short time.

Our evacuated tube panels are made up of double wall evacuated tubes with heat pipe technology which are not affected by cold ambient temperatures. This technology allows the panels to reach very high temperatures (greater than 90 degrees C) even in -35 degrees C weather. For example: on days where the ambient temperature is colder than the desired pool temperature some solar panels will cool the pool instead of heating it by spreading the pool water over a large surface area. This especially occurs in our random Canadian climate. Therefore, our solar panels which are not affected by ambient temperature, can heat a pool from as early as April to as late as October.

Heating a pool takes quite a bit of time. With our solar pool heaters which utilize free solar energy a pool can be constantly heated without constantly costing you money. Our solar pool heaters can also heat a pool in a much shorter time than any other solar heaters on the market.

The final important factor of high efficiency is the fact that our solar panels do not eat up a lot of roof space and thus less surface area is required to heat a pool. Not to mention our panels do not suffocate the roof causing it to rot and deteriorate at a faster rate than normal.
